Why is lightning data over 2 hours old? |
| |
If there is current active lightning anywhere in the network, it will be 5 minutes old. Lightning data in MetWise Net has
certain restrictions from the data
provider. Restrictions are in-place to
keep the MetWise Net subscription cost
low. When we added lightning data (at
additional cost to us) we did not
increase the subscription cost. The
restrictions are twofold:
1. The most recent lightning data must
be 5 minutes old.
2. Lightning data over 2 hours old may
not be displayed with current products.
Number 1 is self explanatory. For number
2, if you are displaying, for example, a
two hour radar loop and there were no
lightning strikes detected during that
2-hour period, MetWise Net will return
the following in the Status Window if
you try to load the product: '"5min Lgtng Plot" product unavailable or time match error'.
This is not an error, the product is
really unavailable because there were no
lightning strikes in the past 2 hours.
You can, however, request just a
lightning plot without overlaying it on
another type of data. MetWise Net will
then display the most recent 2-hour
period of lightning strikes.

Will MetWise Net work with Windows Vista? |
| |
Yes.
However, you may receive an information
message that states "The color scheme
has changed". Vista will change the
color scheme to Windows Vista Basic to
account for the Java version delivered
with MetWise Net. This does not limit
any MetWise Net functionality and the
color scheme will revert back to the
normal Vista scheme when exiting MetWise
Net.

There are a couple of things you
can do in Vista to eliminate this
information message and allow MetWise
Net to take on the look and feel of
Vista. 1. Download the Windows Vista Java from
www.java.com. Install the new Java
software. Right click on the MetWise Net
icon on the desktop and choose
Properties. Click the Shortcut tab and
change the Target to the location of the
Java software you just installed. The default installation location is C:\Program
Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\. In the Target
window replace only the following:
C:\metwisenet\jre\bin\javaw.exe
with
"C:\Program
Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\javaw.exe"
You must use the quotes because of the
space between "Program" and "Files" in
the path.
This will eliminate the color scheme
change.
2. To give MetWise Net the look and feel
of Vista, edit the admin.properties file
with WordPad (not NotePad). If you used
the default locations when you installed
MetWise Net, the file is located in
C:\metwisenet\config. Find the text
"ui*look_and_feel" and comment it out by
placing the # symbol at the beginning of
the line. Save the file and restart
MetWise Net - it will take on a
Vista-like look and feel.

What do I do if I see a message that says the client is out of date? |
| |
After we update a feature in MetWise Net you will see the following message when you start MetWise Net for the first time since the update. Choose "Yes" to update your software.

|
|
 |
When I start MetWise Net all I can see is the 10km Radar Coded Msg under the Radar drop down menu. Why is the Home radar grayed-out? |
| |
In order to see the Home radar, you must first click on the Radar Chooser button that is located directly under Help. That will open the Radar Chooser window which will show the 10 km radar coded message and current location of the home radar site. You can change the home radar site location by right clicking on another location. |
|
|
 |
How can I permanently change the Home radar location? |
| |
From the file menu, choose Options > Preferences. In the Preferences window, on the right side is a drop-down box labeled Default Radar Site. Use the drop-down list to choose the Home radar location. Click Apply and restart MetWise Net. |
| |
|
 |
Can I maximize the MetWise Net window on my desktop? |
| |
When you install MetWise Net, make sure you choose the maximum resolution to match your monitor.
To change the height of the MetWise Net window:
From the main menu bar: select Options -> Preferences under the General tab and increase the Primary View Port Size. On a 1024 x 768 resolution screen, the size is set to 660 which displays a MetWise Net window fully from the top to the bottom of the screen. You can adjust this number to maximize the height of the window on your desktop. Sometimes when you try to change the Primary View Port Size from the main menu bar MetWise Net will complain and tell you there is a limit as to how large you can make it. To override this you can edit the file user.properties with Word Pad (only use WordPad!). The file is located here: C:\metwisenet\config if you used the default installation location. You can change the value in the line display*primary_viewport_size=660 to what best matches your monitor resolution height. |
| |
|
 |
Can I select a default RAOB location the same way I can my home radar site? |
| |
No. This is not a user selectable feature. |
| |
|
 |
Why does it take longer to display visible satellite images compared to most other products? |
| |
We strive to provide the highest resolution visible satellite images to our customers while delivering them as fast as possible. Our high resolution visible satellite images are the largest files in MetWise Net and even though we use the latest technology wavelet compression algorithms to deliver MetWise Net products as fast as possible, the size of each image and therefore file size determine the download speed. |
| |
|
 |
Why are some products grayed-out on the main menu? |
| |
There are a couple of reasons. First, the map scale you have displayed in the Primary Window may not match the product dimensions. For example, if you have a Northern Hemisphere map displayed and try to request a CONUS model, the model might be grayed-out. Simply change the map to CONUS and it should display. Second, if a product is not available from our MetWise Net server or is a planned future item, the menu item may be grayed-out. |
| |
|
 |
I would like to have a Users Manual I can print out for reference. |
| |
When you download MetWise Net we provide an electronic version of the Users Manual that you can access from the MetWise Net Menu Bar under Help. You can download a PDF version of the Users Manual from the MetWise Net web site at http://extremeforecasting.com/net/pdf.htm. You can then open the Users Manual with Acrobat Reader and print it. |

 |
How do I zoom in and out? |
| |
The middle mouse button is your zoom control. If your mouse does not have a middle button or you are using a laptop computer, you can zoom by pressing the Alt key on your keyboard and the left mouse button simultaneously. |
